Many clients have asked, "What kind of forester do I need?" There are many
types of foresters. Some foresters work for local, state or federal goverment.
Some work in colleges and universities. Foresters may work in a variety of
industry positions ranging from forest management to timber procurement to
administration.

Consulting foresters provide their service to the public for a fee. These
foresters, as the NGF foresters, who provide their expertise and services to the
public for a fee, are bound ethically to maintain strict loyalty to their clients.

Consulting foresters are not restricted to providing minimal services, as is often
the case with the government. State foresters cannot market your timber for a
commercial timber sale.

Private consulting foresters are not bound by the needs and mandates of a
large corporation or sawmill. (Sawmills and wood corporations do have
foresters, but their goal is to obtain timber for the lowest price because they
work for their company and not for you.) Private Consulting Forester firms work
